Morning Swim

Bondi Beach again early in the morning.
I envy people who have sporty morning routines. It just seems to be such a good and healthy thing no matter how you look at it. I have tried to implement something like that many times for myself, but somehow it always feels wrong after the a couple of days. Swimming, running, surfing, tried it all and it just never felt like it could ever become a routine. I guess I'm just not that kind of person. On the other hand I can be active at my desk as well as the gym till late at night. That's what feels right to me. Too bad.

Into the Void

One 'real' photo and some Instagram snaps from my 2-week road trip. I got this van from Escape Rentals - you might wanna have a look in case you are thinking of visiting New Zealand. I think they are great if you travel alone, and still okay for a couple. What I liked about them is that all of their vans are uniquely spray-painted with individual themes. I was happy to drive the Dali model, after they first tried to give me the Wurst model which -as you might guess- had sausages painted on in.

Cape Reinga

One of the very first places I have visited here in New Zealand. Now I'm sorry I didn't spend more time there. I just thought it would look everywhere like this, snapped some random pictures and left. Now a week and many hours of driving later, I'm realizing it's very pretty everywhere, but Cape Reinga really stuck out. Maybe I'll drive back up there even though the weather is not gonna be as nice. Maybe. Or maybe not. The more I drive around here, the more indecisive I get.

Mono Lake

You can find this otherworldly place in Northern California. There is an easy explanation why it looks like this which I won't share with you. I thought it's more interesting if it remains a mystery. You know what to do if you really wanna know: you go to the public library of your town and ask for the Mono Lake book.

So this was an almost full moon night. We just got out of Burning Man and I knew it was time to calm down and relax a little, but somehow I had to go and explore this place at that perfect night. I'm not sure, but this might be one of those moments Steffi thinks I'm a little nuts. I think she hasn't even seen the result yet.

Tracing Stars

These are the movements of the stars within one hour seen from the Mauna Kea volcano on the island of Hawaii. I used to think it's super difficult to take such pictures. A couple of weeks ago in California I ran into a photographer who took pictures like these. He explained it to me in two sentences. In fact, there is absolutely nothing to it. You point at the sky and take either one super long exposure (if your camera can do that), or take a bunch of shorter ones and blend them together in photoshop. That's all. Of course it helps to have a great night sky.In this picture here one could get the illusion of seeing whole circles, but that's not the case. For that I would have to wait till earth rotated 360 degrees. And as we all know, that would take 24 hours. So since I only captured one hour, we only see 15 degrees, is that right? So far with my astro knowledge.

The zig-zagging lights on the mountain are the light traces of cars going to the summit of the mountain where the Mauna Kea Observatories are located. I went up there before taking this picture. Man..that was an experience. The lack of oxygen made me feel super dizzy. It's located 14,000 feet above sea level.
