Another Waterfall

I needed a whole week for a new post. This has to do with the double life I'm leading. In my other life I just defended my PhD thesis and that needed some preparation. Now it´s time for another waterfall :-)

While driving through the country I had the impression that the number of waterfalls I came across is about even with the number of cars that passed by, and I´m not even joking saying that. This one here was close enough to the road to be discovered by eye, but I needed some hiking to actually get there. Also getting down to the water was a little adventure by itself. I like those hikes where you get rewarded when you reach the goal, and hanging out there was definitely a reward - if it only would be warmer in Iceland.

My top 9 most intense (and idiotic) Iceland moments

Somewhere at the southern shore of Iceland.

This is the last day here in Iceland, and I had a bunch of intense moments I'm thinking back to already.

Number 9:
Passing by a dead whale during a nightly walk at a deserted beach.
50% intense.
0% idiotic.

Number 8:
Walking around at an abandoned and very spooky looking farm house.
50% intense.
1% idiotic.

Number 7:
Seeing a door opening and someone seriously spooky looking with a 1970s Iceland brochure in his hands coming out.
60% intense.
Still a bit of an idiotic situation.

Number 6:
Arriving at the Gullfoss Waterfall at night.
70% intense.
0% idiotic.

Number 5:
Exploring the stormy southern shore late at night.
80% intense.
0% idiotic.

Number 4:
While walking in pointless circles in the flat with a group of very touristy people, realizing that the "2-hour Walk on Ice" tour does not go the the summit of the mountain.
2% intense.
100% idiotic.

Number 3:
Being attacked by a group of Buzzards while walking in a large open space.
100% intense.
Trying to scare them away by yelling at them.
50% idiotic (was worth a try).

Number 2:
Got carried away while photographing the southern shore. At some point starting to believe that I'm getting enclosed by water and that there is no escape. Also starting to believe that my remotely parked car is under water already.
100% intense.
100% idiotic.

Number 1:
Arriving at the car after going through 2.
100% intense and idiotic happiness.

Iceland so far

It has been four days already. When I try to recall each day and the things I did, there is one whole day that simply appears as a dark spot with no memories. After thinking about it for a while I came to the conclusion that I have to stretch all the things I did over this time period without thinking in days. Sometimes I'm more up during the day, sometimes more during the night. I'm very unorganized right now and I enjoy that. Last night I slept in the car on a camping ground parking lot. I don't have a tent and I don't think I really need one as I have the ability to have great and recreating sleep anywhere at any time.
So what did I do? Mostly driving. I circled the whole Island in what I believe to be two, but my calendar counts as three days. The first day I didn't stop much because it was raining so much. Sometimes I hopped out of the car and did tiny hikes for pictures. I had to dry the camera after each of these little adventures. The second day I didn't stop much because the weather was nice. Does that make sense? Yes. I wanted to see as much as possible with nice weather before it gets bad again - which is supposed to happen today..yay!

So I made it to Iceland and also managed to get a car. This is one of the most popular sight to see here: Gullfoss. I took this around midnight. The interesting thing is, you have very good light here at midnight, but also because it's in the middle of the night, there is nobody around. You cannot imagine what it feels like to walk through the landscape with absolutely nobody around and then all of a sudden facing this gigantic waterfall.
The colors might be a bit off, that's always the problem I'm dealing with when finishing a picture on my little laptop. Who cares? I wanted to share this with you.
